Dear Martha, You really made our home search and eventual purchase of our new home in Salemtowne easy for us. As you will remember, we contacted you from . . .
southern California after our home in Prosser, Washington was sold and asked you to help us find a home in Salem. We gave you information on the area in which we were interested as well as the type of home we wanted. Upon arriving in Salem four days later, you greeted us with a very complete and well thought out notebook with the particulars on all they homes available in the area that we requested. Also, included was comparative information on homes that had been recently sold. After talking with you, we were impressed with your knowledge of all the places that you were going to show as well as your complete explanation of the role of a Buyer's Agent. From then on, we relied on you to anser all question we had regarding the purchase and other information on the house. You not only guided us through the purchase, but also helped us in other ways. When we were at a loss as to names of businesses to contact for bids for work that needed to be done to the house, you helped us with this. Always, of course, cautioning us to be sure to have three bids or estimates and to not rely only on the names you gave us. During and after our experiences with you, we became convinced that contacting a Buyer's Agent was the only way to go when buying a home. It was extremely helpful since we came from out of the area, and having someone on "our side" was invaluable to us. The help you gave us on the details of purchasing a house was greatly appreciated. As you know, we are extremely pleased with our house hunt and the eventual result. However, as we told you there are a couple of things that we feel might make things easier for the buyer as well as yourself. 1. We relied on you for contacts that had to be made with the escrow company, especially when we were away from Salem. We feel that a form from a Buyer's Agent such as yourself should be made available to clients that request it, spelling out the fact that the Agent is the Buyer's Confidential Representative and can be dealt with as such by others. The form could then be given to institutions with whom we were dealing. Such a form would let the escrow and lending companies involved know about the confidentiality between the buyer and yourself, as our agent. 2. Buyer's Agent is not an appropriate name for your role and as we became more involved in the purchase of our home, we started referring to you as our Buyer's Representative, and still do, by the way. It is our feeling that your role was more that of a representative for use throughout our dealings. Searching for and buying a home with a time line such as ours could have been a very bad experience. With your guidance and ability to look at things calmly and from all angles, the experience was fun and we are really enjoying the home you helped us find. We knew then, as we know now, that we have just the home we wanted! As we mentioned several times, please don't hesitate to give our names as references for anyone who contacts you and wants references. Sincerely, Jerry & Mary Brog |
